Halal Hotel Growth Continues to Rise

Chairman of the Halal Tourism Development Acceleration Team (TP3H) Riyanto Sofyan said the growth of sharia hotels in Indonesia continued to increase.

He revealed, based on data from Traveloka as of May 2018, there were around 730 Islamic hotels in Indonesia. However, the amount will still be curated with the National Sharia Board (DSN) in accordance with the standards set.

Of course, the development of hotel room sales based on data released by Traveloka is very rapid. “It can be seen from the data on room sales growth in 2015 to 2016 which rose by 390 percent. While growth from 2016 to 2017 was 126 percent,” Sofyan told Gatra.

Along with the growth data, the increase in room sales revenue is also skyrocketing and it was noted that in 2015 to 2016 there was an increase in income of 411 percent. While in 2016 to 2017 the increase was 118 percent.

Based on data in the Ministry of Tourism, the number of hotels whose restaurants already have sharia certification amounts to 75. While there are only two hotels with Islamic certificates from the MUI DSN, namely the Syariah Hotel Solo (SHS) and Hotel Sofyan. Especially those in Jakarta, namely Central Jakarta Sofyan Cut Mutia Cikini Hotel and Sofyan Soepomo Tebet Hotel, South Jakarta.

Previously, the standard of sharia hotels did refer to Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Regulation Number 2 of 2014 concerning Guidelines for Implementing Sharia Hotel Businesses. In the regulation, there are two sharia hotel standards; hilal 1, namely basic sharia complience and hilal 2, namely moderate sharia complience.

However, the regulation is currently revoked and the Ministry of Tourism is in the process of formulating new rules. The revocation occurred after a focus group discussion (FGD) was held with related stakeholders. So in the future sharia nomenclature will be changed to halal.

“So the nomenclature used for tourism is right is halal, so it turns out to be halal tourism, not sharia, even the hotel is a halal hotel,” Sofyan said.
